Crisis Care Worker

PRIMARY FUNCTION: 

Provides quality, safe childcare, housecleaning and referrals services at the Crisis Nursery.

PRIMARY DUTIES: 

CHILD CARE 1. Model, oversee and implement behavior management program, responding appropriately to any discipline issues. 2. Welcome, orient and respond to each child in care, providing appropriately for transitions. 3. Lead and plan group activities using developmentally appropriate curriculum. 4. Plan menus, prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks. 5. Diaper, bathe and assure proper routine hygiene. 6. Use nurturing bed and naptime routines. 7. Provide special care and monitoring to children with special physical and emotional needs. 8. Provide a safe environment, both indoors and outdoors, that is orderly, clean, appealing and prevents accidents and injury. REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION 9. Assess and respond to any signs of injury, illness or communicable diseases. 10. Assist with admission and discharge procedures. 11. Document care provided to children through progress notes and other program forms. 12. Administer and document medications to children. GENERAL 13. Maintain a clean and sanitary house, routine cleaning daily and other related household tasks. 14. Work cooperatively with coworkers and parents. 15. Promote program and agency philosophy. 16. Attend all staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. 17. Answer phones, completing pre-intake forms and providing crisis intervention through information and referrals; in a confidential manner. 18. Perform other duties as assigned relating to the overall purpose of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Minimum of 18 years of age. 2. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 3. Introduction to the Child Care Profession course required. 4. Skills and Strategies for the Child Care Teacher course required. 5. Fundamentals of Infant and Toddler Care course required. 6. Must successfully complete TB Testing with negative reading and Physical. 7. Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifiable every 2 years. 8. Minimum 15 hours of in-service training each year. 9. Able to lift children up to 40 pounds in weight. 10. Bilingual (Spanish and English) strongly preferred. 11. Good communication skills, both oral and written, interpersonal relationship skills, and ability to work effectively with others from culturally diverse, linguistic and economic backgrounds in a team and individual environment. 12. Good critical thinking; able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. 13. Must be able to work flexible hours; as programming requires. 14. Must successfully pass background checks, physical and TB testing.

NON-ESSSENTIAL DUTIES: 

Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

NORMAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Work is generally performed in a day care center/shelter environment. Frequent walking, sitting, standing, seeing, hearing, physical tasks with children and lifting infants and toddlers required. May be exposed to infectious diseases. Flexible hours required; as dictated by program needs.
