Family Support Specialist

PRIMARY FUNCTION: 
Provide support and parent education to families with children and first time parents through home visitation, the implementation of curriculum and group based programs.
PRIMARY DUTIES: 

1. Provide case management, parent support, and parent education through the Parents As Teachers curriculum to families through home visitation and center based activities. 2. Assist families to develop care plans and work with families to implement those goals. 3. Assess children in their ongoing development using approved program assessment tools in a timely manner. 4. Implement other program tools and assessments according to program guidelines. 5. Attend meetings and trainings as required. 6. Develop, promote and facilitate group-based programs. 7. Ensure program goals and objectives are met by working effectively with other staff, both internally and with collaborating partners. 8. Complete all documentation in an accurate and timely basis, including but not limited to data for monthly reporting, family files, and computer data entry and billing if applicable. Ensure all files are in compliance with program guidelines. 9. Provide assistance to walk-in participants at the Family Resource Center. 10. Work with other staff to coordinate or assist with Family Resource Center events. 11. Assist with ensuring a clean and safe environment for participants and staff. 12. QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Associate Degree in Human Services or related area or two years experience working directly with families in educational capacity. 2. Bilingual, English and Spanish, strongly preferred. 3. Demonstrated knowledge of word processing with experience in using Microsoft Office suite. 4. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, interpersonal relationship skills, and ability to work effectively with others with a culturally diverse, linguistic and economic background both independently and in a team environment. 5. Good critical thinking; able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. 6. Highly developed organizational skills and able to manage multiple priorities. 7. Transportation, valid Wisconsin driver’s license, state minimum car insurance and must meet La Causa’s driver’s standards. 8. Must be able to work flexible hours; including evenings and some weekends, as programming requires.

NORMAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Work is generally performed in office, involving direct contact with participants and with local travel for appointments. Frequent walking, standing, hearing, seeing, writing/typing required. May be exposed to infectious diseases. Flexible hours required; as dictated by program needs.
