General Aide (Garden/Bookstore)
Responsible for coordinating the La Causa Charter School’s new outdoor learning garden and managing the La Causa Charter School Bookstore.
1. Plant and care for a three-season vegetable garden with students. 2. Develop gardening, composting, nutrition, and outdoor-based projects in the outdoor learning garden based on educational content standards. 3. Oversee the maintenance of composting systems. 4. Act as an on-site naturalist by becoming familiar with the garden resources and developing relationships with students and staff that stimulate observation and involvement in the outdoor setting. 5. Supervise lunchtime garden visits. 6. Participate in ongoing documentation of student projects through photographs, transcriptions of students’ words, and bulletin boards. 7. Assist with grant writing and reporting. 8. Organize biannual community workdays. BOOKSTORE 9. Maintain an updated and accurate inventory of all items. 10. Make deposits on a daily basis. 11. Order school supplies and uniforms, as needed. 12. Order Charter School clothing for staff members. 13. Maintain a clean and organized setting for the bookstore. 14. Distribute uniforms to parents. 15. Sell school supplies to students, parents and staff. GENERAL 16. Participate in special projects and events as directed. 17. Know how many children are in the group and where they are at all times. Never leave a child or group of children unattended. 18. Other related duties as assigned for the overall purpose of the program. NE
1. Minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent. 2. Bilingual (English / Spanish) strongly preferred. 3. Experience with children ages 5-14 in a professional setting. 4. Experience in vegetable and basic landscape gardening. 5. Demonstrated organizational skills, able to manage multiple priorities and able to respond quickly and courteously. 6. Demonstrated abilities in word processing, spreadsheets and data bases with experience in using Microsoft Office suite. 7. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, interpersonal relationship skills, and ability to work effectively with others in a diverse cultural, linguistic and economic background; both in a team and individual environment. 8. Valid Wisconsin driver’s license, car and state minimum insurance required and must meet La Causa driving standards. 9. Must be able to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends; based on program needs 10. Must successfully complete TB and drug testing, physical and background checks.

Work is generally performed in outdoor school learning garden, office environment and direct contact with children in school setting. Frequent physical movement to include, but not limited to: walking, standing, squatting, running, hearing, seeing and speaking. May be exposed to infectious diseases. Some local/state-wide travel; as needed. Flexible hours required; as dictated by program needs.
