Senior Accountant II – Educational Programs (OPENING DATE: 10/12/11 CLOSING DATE: Extended to Until Filled)

PRIMARY FUNCTION: 
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for all Accounting Department functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
PRIMARY DUTIES: 

Legend: E = Essential / NE = Non Essential / N/A = Not Applicable MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM ALL OF THE DUTIES OF SENIOR ACCOUNTANT I IN ADDITION TO: 1. Prepare, complete, distribute, and/or submit required items by due dates; to include, but not limited to: monthly closing (including income recognition, receivables reconciliation and reserve schedules), period-end journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, preparation of period-end financial reports, financial period closings, cash flow reports, monthly bank reconciliations, periodic and special financial reports, etc. E 2. Assist CFO to ensure compliance with proper account classifications, grant fund expenditures, etc. E 3. Meet and/or address accounting processes (i.e.; preliminary agency budgets, audits, program transaction processing and reporting) with applicable stakeholders (Department Managers, auditors, etc.) and research, resolve, and/or respond as needed. E 4. Provide coverage for accounting staff as needed. NE Senior Accountant I 1. Prepare and process payroll and the monthly billings (i.e.; grantors and contract funders) according to the applicable schedules. E 2. Follow legal, organizational and contractual requirements, laws and policies (i.e.; financial management procedures, internal controls, grant/contract purchase requirements, etc.). E 3. Meet and/or address accounting issues with applicable stakeholders (staff, vendors, auditors, etc.) and research, resolve, and/or respond as needed. E 4. Prepare, complete, distribute, and/or submit required items by due dates; to include, but not limited to: monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, deposit covers, daily bank balances, etc. E 5. Assist, as requested, in the budget preparation process, complete data entry for budgets, conduct budget audits, and produce periodic reports. E 6. Assist in preparing for audits. E 7. Recommend system improvements as they relate to the Payroll and Account Receivable functions. NE 8. Attend meetings, workshops, and professional development activities and perform training and presentations, as directed. NE 9. Establish and maintain good communication, collaboration and cooperation with all stakeholders (i.e., staff, vendors, auditors, etc.). NE 10. Perform other duties as assigned. NE

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. Bachelor Degree in Accounting or related field. CPA preferred. 2. Minimum 5 years experience in accounting, preferably with a public accounting firm or in the not-for-profit field. Experience in school setting preferred. 3. Demonstrated experience in the use of a computerized payroll system and accounting tools. Knowledge of Visual Account Mate preferred. 4. Bilingual (Spanish and English) strongly preferred. 5. Excellent organizational skills, able to manage multiple priorities and able to respond quickly and courteously. 6. Experience with word processing, spreadsheets and data bases with experience in using Microsoft Office suite. 7. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, interpersonal relationship skills, and ability to work effectively with others in a diverse cultural, linguistic and economic background; both in a team and individual environment. 8. Transportation required. 9. Must successfully complete and pass all background checks. 10. Able to work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, depending on program needs.

Work is generally performed in an office environment. Flexible hours required; as dictated by program needs.
