After School Community Learning Center

La Causa Charter School’s after-school Community Learning Center offers about 75 students each day a broad array of services, programs and activities after school. Our program is aligned to La Causa Charter School’s Improvement Plan (SIP) and Milwaukee Public Schools’ District Learning Targets.

We offer students one-on-one tutoring and provide preparation strategies for the November Terra Nova and the WKCE performance tests. We also give out supplementary materials in the areas of mathematics, literacy, sciences and robotics education to strengthen weaknesses that students may have in targeted testing areas. We also offer youth development activities like dance, recreation such as basketball and soccer programs, and offer drug and violence prevention lessons, counseling, art, music, technology education and character education programs.

More than 88 percent are Hispanic; 25 percent are primarily Spanish speakers; 75 percent qualify for free lunch under federal guidelines. Almost 73 percent of them live in either the 53204 or 53215 zip codes.

Our program is funded primarily by a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
