The goal of La Causa’s Prevention and Family Support Services is to develop, strengthen and support the quality of family life through a sustained culture of education, resources, shelter and advocacy keeping children and families free from all forms of abuse and neglect.

Programs and Services

La Causa’s Crisis Nursery and Respite Center is the only one of it kind in southeastern Wisconsin. The Center is open 24 hours, 365 days a year to provide care for children from birth to 12 years of age in a safe, free of charge, nurturing environment during times of family emergency/crisis, high parental stress or need for respite care.

• Crisis Management and Respite Care Support is confidential and available to families throughout the Milwaukee community. Striving to strengthen and keep families together, staff members work with each family to help them through the immediate crisis, assess the family’s needs and make referrals to other programs and resources.

During 2008:

• 667 children received crisis or respite care
• 301 families received services
• 370 parents received crisis management and additional support services
• 1,750 callers received support, information and referrals through the bilingual warm line
